Hearing Impaired (Deaf) Students often face problems in understanding and using the available information in an appropriate manner. Therefore, to help these students access information adequately, an e-learning environment developed and designed to meet the needs of deaf students by adding or enhancing sign language features in the e-learning environment.

The total enrollment of Children with Special Needs in 2021-22 is 22.67 lakh, a rise from 21.91 lakh in 2020-21, representing a 3.45 percent increase over 2020-21. Out of these a total of 2.3 lakh hearing-impaired students are continuing their education in both the schools of inclusive and exclusive.
Approximately, 1.8 lakh hearing impaired students needed special schools but only 1.2lakh children are getting school education in the exclusive hearing impaired school. Only about 15-20% of schools are providing education in proper sign language which was designed by ISLRTC (Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre).

The age group 10-19 (School age) years has the highest number of disabled people (46.2 lakhs). 17% of the disabled population is between the ages of 10 and 19, and 16% is between the ages of 20 and 29. At the national level, the elderly (60+ years) disabled made up 21% of the total disabled.
